Friends of Mansfield Battlefield Commission Medal Commemorating 140th Anniversary

The Friends of the Mansfield Battlefield has commissioned a limited edition of 1,000 bronze medallions to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Red River Campaign, Battle of Mansfield and Battle of Pleasant Hill. The medallion features Civil War generals Banks and Taylor on the front and the commemorative information with dates of the Battle of Mansfield and Battle of Pleasant Hill on the reverse side. Each features a sequential number indicating its placement in the edition of 1000.

The burnished bronze medallions measure 1 15/16 in diameter. They are packaged in soft cloth envelope-flap pouches with the name of the Friends of the Mansfield Battlefield and accompanied by authenticity card indicating their placement in the edition.

Friends of the Mansfield Battlefield will accept pre-issue orders for the first 500 medallions from members of the organization through March 30. The remaining medallions will be available at the 140th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Mansfield at the Mansfield State Historic Site, Saturday, April 3. This event will be one of the largest reenactment events in Mansfield as reenactors from throughout the country converge on the Mansfield State Historic Site.

Following the April 3 weekend, orders from the public will be accepted and shipped until the edition is depleted based on the date of receipt of the order. The cost of each medal is $20 plus shipping, delivery confirmation and packaging. Insurance is available at an additional fee. Special pricing and artwork have been supplied by Worrell Bros. in Shreveport, allowing the Friends to retain more than 75% of the sales price for preservation and education.

Membership information and an order form for the medallions can be found on the Friends of the Mansfield Battlefield Web site,, and in the organization’s March newsletter.
